About Mid North Women’s Aid and Refuge (MNWAR)
Mid North Women’s Aid and Refuge (MNWAR) is a non-profit organisation dedicated to providing holistic and culturally responsive support to women and children across Northland. Our core mission is to empower individuals and families to live lives free from all forms of violence, abuse, and oppression.
Operating within a trauma-informed and strengths-based framework, MNWAR works alongside vulnerable and at-risk individuals to provide advocacy, safe housing, education, and long-term support. Our work is guided by principles of care, respect, and self-determination, ensuring every person we support is treated with dignity and compassion.
Our services span the Mid North region of New Zealand, from Waipoua Forest and the Hokianga through to Kaeo and the Towai area, covering both rural and urban communities. We understand the unique challenges faced by families in both isolated and populated areas and tailor our support to meet these diverse needs.
MNWAR is driven by a passionate team of eight dedicated staff members, combining experienced professionals and emerging leaders in social services and advocacy. We work collaboratively with local communities, government agencies, and partner organisations to ensure women and children are safe, supported, and empowered to rebuild their lives.
Our commitment to fostering safe, resilient communities remains at the heart of everything we do. As we continue to grow and respond to the evolving needs of our people, we remain focused on our values and our vision of a violence-free future for all.
